Hi there!

I’m Brendan Vieira, proprietor of BZ Sharpening. I’m a father of five (number six is en route!), Coast Guard veteran, local horse shoer and blacksmith, and avid fan of good sharp hand tools.

That’s why BZ Sharpening is here – to help you get your tools in shape for safe, effective performance. What makes this service different? Three things.

1. Quality – BZ is and old naval flag signal for “Good Job” or “Well done”. I do a good job for you so you can take the tool and do a good job for yourself. Using a combination of old fashioned hand stones, ultra-modern abrasives, and the latest and greatest in precision sharpening machines, I can achieve the precision and quality you need to care for your tools.

2. Education – It’s hard to know sometimes just how to sharpen a particular tool. So you go searching for information, and get a bunch of different stories from a bunch of different people all telling you different things. Who’s right? Now you can bypass that BS deadlock. Come on in to my shop, bring your tools – and your questions! I’m always here to help you understand what’s the best choice for your tool, whether we’re talking cleaning up years of neglect and abuse, or just honing the edge on a well-cared-for favorite.

3. Empowerment and Support – I don’t hide my knowledge or technique. I’m here for you to whatever extent you need me. Just need that old machete cleaned up, no questions asked? Fine. Want to pick my brain about fine details of angle choice, grind types, steel types, etc … for different tools? Bring them in and strike up a conversation. We all gain when we freely share our knowledge, experience, and abilities.

So here we are. In the future I hope to expand into servicing more items, such as mower blades, large planer/paper cutter blades, drill bits and saws. Watch this space for more updates as I expand my services. The goal of all this is to create a space of excellence in edged tool maintenance and education that deserves, and gains, your trust and loyalty. And to have fun along the way. So drop by and join me as I build this business for you.

I’ll try to post weekly in this space with tips, tricks, opinions, before/after photos, updates, and other fun stuff. Stay tuned.
